I really love this. I am blessed with a great group of guys who are apart of my inner circle. We grow together and encourage each other weekly. I do think the comments about your children not having “friends” is a little harsh. While making the distinction is important (I am someone who will call most people my friend), to say someone is not your friend because you haven’t known them for a set amount of time feels like overkill to make them point.
David, thanks for the note! Having an inner circle is crucial to our growth as believers [and humans, for that matter].
And I appreciate your thoughts on the term 'friend,' which definitely can come across as harsh... Fortunately, I've spent considerable time helping my children see the difference between friends and acquaintances, how it is both physically and emotionally consuming to be a friend, and though we should be friendly to everyone, we do not have to be friends with everyone. I think this will help mitigate future heartache [especially with my daughter].
I appreciate the discussion; thanks for the feedback.
